The Estevan Bruins sparked long-time fans' fond memories in 2021 when they brought in Zach Burfoot - the son of the 1987-88 SJHL scoring champion, Scott Burfoot. And fans will once again get to see the last name don the black and gold.

Estevan announced Monday they acquired Zach from the Wisconsin Windigo of the North American Hockey League.

Zach had eight goals and 12 assists over 35 regular-season games, and skated in three postseason tilts as the Bruins claimed the SJHL Championship.

The 5-foot-10 forward spent 2022-23 with the Windigo, racking up 12 goals and 23 assists in 47 regular-season games. He started this fall with nine points in 18 contests.

Now he'll bring the Bruins' number of 2003-born players up to the maximum of eight that can suit up in a game. The Bruins traded 20-year-old forward Brendan Hunchak to the Weyburn Red Wings last week for a player-development fee.

Estevan will look to push its win streak to four games Friday night when they visit the Melville Millionaires. The Bruins will then host the Millionaires on Saturday night.

Estevan was well represented in the SJHL's latest weekly awards.

Cam Hrdlicka made a combined 63 saves on 67 shots across 5-1 and 4-3 victories over the Ice Wolves in La Ronge this past Friday and Saturday. It was the first action for the 20-year-old in nearly a month.

And Felix Allard posted two goals and three assists over three games for the defenceman-of-the-week honour.

The 2022-23 SJHL MVP Kian Bell was the weekly MVP, with eight points in four games. He's up to 18 points in five games since returning to the Battlefords North Stars from a stint with the WHL's Edmonton Oil Kings.

Kindersley Klippers forward Keegan Ingram was forward of the week, thanks to a pair of games that saw him pile up three goals and three assists.
