The town of Oxbow celebrated Family Day on Monday with their third annual Winterfest.

The event was sponsored by a grant from the Southeast Sports, Culture and Recreation District and organized by the town of Oxbow.

Community Development Officer, Treena Mohrbutter, said the highlights of the event included a macrame workshop, colouring station, and the learn to curl workshop. Skating, snowshoeing, and skiing were also offered to attendees free of charge. The day finished off with a bonfire and hot chocolate and Just Bread was there with refreshments including crepes, and waffle dogs.

Mohrbutter said that one of the most popular events was skating with the Senior Huskies, and the kids were so excited to be part of it.

“They think of them as their heroes, so they love to come out and do that," said Mohrbutter.

It wasn’t just locals who were enjoying the event. A couple from Mexico, who were visiting the area were able to try out some winter classics, such as curling and snowshoeing for the first time.

“It was just lots of fun and everything was free, so it was just a nice event for everyone to come out and try some things that they hadn't before or come and practice their skating and all that,” said Mohrbutter.
