The provincial government is providing $3 million for the Saskatchewan Innovation and Opportunity Scholarship program. This is matched by funding raised by post-secondary institutions.

"Our government is proud to support students as they achieve their educational goals, transition to employment and participate in the growth of the Saskatchewan economy," Advanced Education Minister Gene Makowsky said. "In continued partnership with the post-secondary institutions, the program will provide a potential of $6 million in scholarships for Saskatchewan students this fiscal year."

The Innovation and Opportunity Scholarship was created in 2011, and since that time, more than 38,000 scholarships have been handed out. This includes 3,500 scholarships awarded in 2020-21.

The scholarship is primarily aimed at students in areas of study such as mining energy, biotechnology, agriculture, environment, engineering, medicine and science.
