An Estevan team ended up getting the gold medal during a weekend tournament held in town.

The Estevan Primec Controls 13U AA Bruins took the top spot, after duking it out with seven other teams in the U13 Primec Controls Challenger Cup.

Chandall Barnstable, who manages their social media, detailed what they went through.

"The Estevan Primec Controls 13U AA Bruins came up with gold with a four-one win over the Assiniboine Park Rangers from Winnipeg. We went three and one over the weekend before the final game and the Assiniboine Park Rangers got silver and the Moose Jaw Warriors got bronze beating the Virden oil caps. It was an all-around great weekend."

Barnstable says she heard a lot of good things from the visiting team.

"Everyone had really positive things to say about the tournament. I think all the kids had a lot of fun. We had some great donations that were given after the weekend for raffle tables. So all the kids were just having a great time."

The annual Challenger Cup made its way to Estevan for the first year, bringing teams from across western Canada.

"This is the first year that it was the Primec Controls challenger cup and we had eight teams from Weyburn, Winnipeg, Watford out of the states, Moose Jaw, Melville, Regina, and Virden."
