Applications are now being accepted for the 2018 Canadian Nuffield Farming Scholarships.

Five $15 thousand dollar scholarships are available to successful applicants between the ages generally of 25 and 45 with a minimum of five years of agricultural business or farming experience.

Saskatchewan’s Shannon McArton is Nuffield Canada’s Executive Director fills us in on the program.

"It's an opportunity for them to travel internationally," McArton said. "We feel it's very important that they gain perspective about what's going on at home by seeing what's going on around the world. The real goal of it is that these scholars after they have done their travel study and prepared their report, then share that with Canadian agriculture for the betterment of everyone."

She also spoke more in-depth about the program.

"We're really pushing for some primary producers, but anybody that's involved in agri-business eligible to apply," she said. "We've seen studies done on soil, cattle production, value added, processing and land management. There is a huge range of topics that are being considered or that have been done."

The application deadline is April 30th, 2017.
