There’s no word as of yesterday as to the cause of death for the livestock at Shamrock Pasture.

The Provincial Lab and the Western College of Veterinary Medicine are evaluating samples to try and find out what happened.

Glenn Straub, President of Shamrock Grazing Ltd says it’s been a tragedy, adding that 8 patrons had cattle in that specific pasture:

"Well I guess, deep down, all I'd like is for people to know that nobody's at fault here," said Straub. "We love these animals, and we didn't want this."

He says they were hoping to wrap up the cleanup yesterday, the remaining animals are recovering in a different pasture with veterinarians thinking they are over the hump now.

"The field they're in now, there are trees for shade, there is fresh water, they have moved in creep feeders with oats by recommendation of the veterinarian for the orphan calves. We are monitoring close. The veterinarians think we are over the critical hump."

He notes his focus now turns to trying to see what kind of financial compensation may be available for the producers affected.
