Folks with a MySaskHealthRecord account can now officially access their medical records through their phones with ease.

EHealth Saskatchewan launched their new mobile app to the public last Wednesday, after a year in the works.

Director of Citizen and Partnership Programs, Dana Dolney, said work started on developing the app in 2022.

“A MySaskHealthRecord mobile app is something that citizens have been asking us for since the original web version went live in 2019,” she said. “The app makes it easier for people to have access to their health records in their own hands, using a mobile device. Through surveys, we know that 87% of our respondents have indicated that they would be likely to use a mobile optimized version of the service.”

With the same features as the web-based version, the MySaskHealthRecord mobile app allows users to see laboratory test results, medical imaging reports, immunization history, prescription history, and clinical visit history.

However, it also offers users the ability to add their own information to track and generate reports, set medication and appointment reminders, and share information with other users.

A total of $291,000 went into creating the application, which can be used on mobile devices with Apple operating systems 14 and newer and Android operating systems 11 or newer.

“We have heard that patients are better prepared when they present for an appointment with their healthcare provider,” Dolney stated. "And it's accessible using a mobile device while they're at a visit. We have heard through our survey results that 21% of users have avoided a test that was already recently done; 19% have indicated they have fewer appointments at a walk-in clinic; and 9% have indicated that they have avoided a visit to the emergency department by having access to their health information in MySaskHealthRecord.”

The web-based version will remain available for those who don't want to use the mobile app.
