A young goaltender from the southeast is about to take her hockey career to the next level.

Chloe Sorenson, who grew up in Bienfait, recently committed to Minot State University and will play hockey for the Beavers next season.

"I chose Minot State because the location is very close to home and the campus size is just unreal, and the whole facility is gorgeous," Sorenson said. "It felt like home as soon as you walk in, so I'm really excited for the opportunity I've been presented with."

"The hockey's going to be great on top of the education, so it was hard to say no to that."

Sorenson, 17, is currently playing for the U18 AAA Regina Rebels. She already has quite the physical advantage with her height at 5'11.

"I'm a butterfly goalie. I'm quite big in the net...I cover up a lot of room," she said.

Sorenson has been playing the sport since she was eight-years-old.

"What I love most about the sport of hockey is the connections you make. The friendships last a lifetime and it's just a great community," she said.

Sorenson said she'll be majoring in exercise science in rehabilitation and is excited to head south in the fall.

"I'm absolutely thrilled. It's such a great opportunity. It's going to be awesome."
