Around the weekend, Canadians have been experiencing the two big pre-December sales, those being Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

While most of the sales are in the US, since the day is right next to their Thanksgiving, there are some Canadian stores that have sales on the last Friday of November.

However, most stores have decided to put their own twist onto the day rather than just calling it Black Friday.

Jackie Wall, the Estevan Chamber of Commerce executive director, says that they're looking to prepare customers for the holiday season.

"I did notice some Black Friday sales that were specifically called Black Friday sales, but I also noticed there were some of the businesses that were having sales whether that just be a sale they decided to do on their own and not have a Black Friday sale. There were lots of people that were kicking off the Christmas season, we are heading into December. There was a little bit of that, as well."

While some locations do have a sale for Black Friday, Wall says that Cyber Monday is decidedly less popular.

"Cyber Monday just doesn't seem to be as popular, and it's a very US thing. The big box stores often have a Cyber Monday or a Black Friday, but I think local businesses often like to spin it their own way, and kind of make it a little bit more personalized than going with Black Friday or Cyber Monday."

The sales are best determined on a case-by-case situation, as many businesses will find customers want different sales at different times.

"I think people need to basically take a look at their business needs and what their business cycle is and when they need their sales. I think probably the best thing businesses can do is just take a look at how that fits into what they do, and if that's something their clientele is looking for."
