Defensemen Billy Sowa and Matt Millette each scored their first career SJHL goals and helped the Estevan Bruins defeat the Humboldt Broncos 6-2 on Saturday night at Affinity Place.

The Bruins exploded for three goals in the first period and that deficit proved too much for the Broncos to overcome.

Humboldt's win streak was snapped at eight games, while the Bruins have now won six in a row and are unbeaten in regulation in their last nine.

Mark Rumsey also had a big night, scoring his team-leading 12th goal of the season and finishing with three points. Rumsey's three brothers had made the trip from Newfoundland to Estevan and were in the building on Saturday night watching live.

Newcomer Eric Pearce also scored in his first game back with the Bruins after playing in a few games last year when he was loaned to the team from the WHL.

Estevan is now 12-3-0-1 on the year.

Transactions

Earlier Saturday, the Bruins announced that they had traded third year forward Griffin Asham-Moroz to the Drumheller Dragons of the Alberta Junior Hockey League in exchange for forward Kasey Hiemstra. The trade enabled the Bruins to bring in the 20-year-old Pearce, as SJHL teams are only allowed eight 20-year-olds on their game day roster.

Pearce had recently been put on waivers by the Brandon Wheat Kings. He finished Saturday's game with two points.

Hiemstra is expected to arrive in Estevan Sunday night and should be in the lineup Tuesday against Melville.
