As the plans began to come together for the Town of Carlyle's new spray park, it looked more and more like they'd be able to have it done sometime in June. As we enter the back half of June, the park is already open and people have been making use of it.

"It is at the end of our Main Street so if you're coming from out of town, you just turn down Main Street and head straight down the road, you can't miss it," said Mayor Jennifer Sedor. "It's beautiful. It looks like it's meant to be there and always has been."

The park's location is another bonus to it as it's not far from several local stores, so there's plenty of parking and you can grab a coffee while the kids play in the park. The increased traffic in the Main Street area would be welcomed by shop owners as well.

"It's a beautiful amenity to have in this town," Sedor said. "I'm so happy with how it's turned out. And it's been well received. It's been quite busy. So we love it."

In addition to a good location, timing has been very much on the town's side as well. The park opened up not long after the first set of public health orders were lifted, allowing for larger gatherings, and just yesterday another series of orders were lifted as well.

"The day we were able to open, it was 30 degrees," said Sedor. "It was almost like everyone was just waiting for the taps to turn on. We're so happy we have something that is safe and available and accessible to all family levels. It's great to have something like that in your town."

Sedor said they won't likely be doing another large project like this any time soon, but they'll have to decide that over the next little while. Recreation was a big part of the town's budget this year and their town council is going to be working on strategic planning for the facilities in town.

All remaining restrictions on gatherings are set to lift in Saskatchewan on Sunday, July 11.
