A bit of precipitation on the colder side is headed towards Saskatchewan, with cities on the Southeast catching the edge of that system.

The colder weather is coming after above-average temperatures last week helped delay the start of winter, but now it seems we'll be settling under the 0-degree mark.

That means areas that receive higher amounts of snow may see that sticking around for a while.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Dan Fulton says that today will have nice weather, but that won't last long.

"Then tonight and into Wednesday we've got a system that's crossing the province," said Fulton, "The heaviest precipitation will be along and north of Yellowhead, so it's just going to brush the Estevan area. So for Estevan and Weyburn, we're looking at just a chance of showers on Wednesday, but as you go further north, there'll be some snow happening."

That precipitation will get worse the further you go and will intensify as far north as Regina.

"It depends of course where you are, and it's a multi-day event as well," said Fulton, "So we're looking at a 5-10 cm north of Yellowhead,"

That snow, combined with some cooler temperatures, means that many of the snowdrifts forming from the system will be sticking around.

"The temperatures are turning a good bit colder too," said Fulton, "We're looking at highs below zero for, once we get past the next couple of days, the remainder of the week and the weekend, so it's going to stick around."

Meanwhile, Estevan and the surrounding area are in prime condition to avoid the worst of the system, though the Southeast won't be quite free.

"You guys are definitely in the best area," said Fulton, "The heaviest chance for your looks like on Thursday where you could probably see a couple of centimeters of snow. That could give you some slippery conditions."

The snow on Thursday will be followed up by more on Saturday, though Fulton says it's too early to guess exactly what that might bring.

"That's the second one, and that's pretty far out," said Fulton, "That one doesn't look quite as big as the first one, but we'll have to see, that's still pretty far out to say much about it as this time."
