The Estevan Public Youth Centre held its first ever cornhole tournament at the Wylie Mitchell Building this past weekend as a fundraiser for the centre.

"It was a good first event," said the centre's Co-chair Patrick Fisher. "We ended up with 32 entries."

"Everyone seemed to have a very positive time at it."

Fisher added that the Saskatchewan Cornhole Association helped coordinate the tournament. Most people who competed were from Estevan, through there were a couple competitors who came down from Regina.

The centre ended up raising over $6,000 through the tournament.

"A lot of that we can credit to the Kinette Club of Estevan. They ended up donating $2,500 for the building rental as well as the prize fund for it," Fisher said. "That meant that all our entry fees were able to go straight back into the organization."

"It'll go towards programming, keeping the building running, allowing youth to come in and enjoy the programming free of charge, and keep it running in the community of Estevan."

Fisher said the centre is definitely looking at holding the tournament again in the future.
