A report commissioned by the Canadian Medical Association says lengthy health care wait times are costing the economy billions of dollars.

However, Deb Jordan, the Executive Director of Acute and Emergency Services for Saskatchewan Health, says the situation is improving, adding that reducing wait times remain a key priority for the new government.

The report estimates the annual wait-time cost in lost productivity and added health expenses is $14.8 billion, which in turn costs Federal and Provincial Governments $4.4 billion in lost tax revenues.
