The Saskatchewan RCMP cancelled a dangerous person alert around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday that was issued earlier in the day.

One man is dead and another sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of a shooting that occurred in the area of the Country Inn Motel in Melville.

RCMP said their initial investigation determined the incident was not random, and therefore concluded there is not a heightened risk to the general public right now.

The RCMP said they will notify the public if that changes.

The increased police presence will continue in Melville and on surrounding roadways. The injured man was taken to hospital. The RCMP 

The RCMP Major Crime Unit has taken over the investigation, with help from other specialized units and nearby detachments.

Police said in the original alert, issued at 10:35, that they believed two suspects were involved. The suspects' descriptions, location, and method of travel were unknown. There was an abandoned vehicle near Duff, Sask. (southwest of Melville toward Regina).
