Veteran Estevan Bruins forward Cody Davis is going to be out of the lineup for an extended period of time after suffering a broken ankle in a game against the Melfort Mustangs last Saturday night at Affinity Place.

The Bruins confirmed the injury Tuesday. In a statement, the team said Davis was assessed at the rink following the injury before being taken to St. Joseph's Hospital.

The team said Davis will be out for "at least a few weeks" but that they hope to see him return some time after the Christmas break.

Davis was injured when he was tripped on a breakaway by Mustangs defenceman Leyton Holoien and slammed into the goal post before going feet first into the end boards.

"I want to thank everyone for the support, concern and well wishes. I’ll be back before you know it," Davis said.

The Bruins travel to Melville and Yorkton for a pair of divisional games this weekend.
