The death of an eighty-year old woman in the Sun Country Health Region may be the first fatal case of the West Nile Virus in Saskatchewan this year.

According to Phil Curry, an Entomologist and Provincial West Nile Virus Coordinator, the province is now reporting three-hundred and thirty-nine cases of the West Nile Virus, the most since 2003.

Two cases of the non-neurological syndrome of the West Nile Virus have been confirmed in the Sun Country Health Region with another twenty-nine cases under investigation.
