The old Kal Tire building is being knocked down today. And the City of Estevan is advising the public to avoid the area near the 1301 5th Street location.

13th Avenue is limited to single-lane traffic between 4th and 5th Streets. The righthand turning lane (onto 4th) and the sidewalk are also closed. So is the alley behind TD bank.

The speed limit has been reduced to 30 kph.

"Be aware of truck traffic turning off of 5th Street," said City Safety Coordinator Helen Fornwald. "The public is requested to avoid this area and find an alternate route during this time. Everyone is reminded to follow all construction signage and be aware of moving equipment and construction workers."

The building was purchased along with two other buildings, including a house, and six lots by the City and the Business Improvement District as part of plans for Estevan's revitalization.

Fornwald said Monday morning that the City doesn't have an exact timeframe for the demolition to be completed.
