Temperatures are expected to fluctuate significantly through the remainder of the week in southeast Saskatchewan.

A low-pressure system is bringing weather that's much warmer than usual Tuesday. Estevan's high is forecast to hit 6 C - well above the typical high this time of year of -3.

But winter-like weather is expected to hit beginning Tuesday evening, with a couple centimetres of snow in the forecast.

"Unfortunately as the low continues on its transit, the winds shift from out of the west as we see this morning to out of the northwest by this evening," said Environment Canada Meteorologist Natalie Hasell. "That will allow temperatures to cool down to an overnight low of minus 8, and then tomorrow the temperatures continue to fall as the winds continue to blow out of the northwest, so we have a bit of a reverse trend for tomorrow."

The temperature is expected to drop to -14 C on Wednesday afternoon.

Hasell said the swings in temperature can complicate driving conditions.

"We do need people to pay attention to road conditions with temperatures going up to plus 6 today, things will obviously melt. And then anything that is liquid will freeze or refreeze as the temperatures fall below 0 tonight."

Hasell said any travel plans for Tuesday should be made knowing conditions for a return home at night will be much different than on the way out during the day.

Winds gusting to 50 kph from the northwest accompanied by snow could impact visibility on highways at some points.

Areas much further north in Saskatchewan will likely be hit with heavier snowfall amounts, though Hasell said it's not at warning-criteria levels.

Hasell added that this is prime time to prepare emergency kits for your vehicle and your home. She recommended checking getprepared.gc.ca for an easy checklist on what you need.

Thursday's weather is projected to be a typical high of -3 C for Estevan, before things heat back up Friday for a high of 7 C.
