As a precaution, the City of Estevan has emergency plans in place with as much as 80 millimetres of rain being forecast for the Estevan area for Thursday night and into Friday.

"The City of Estevan and its roads crews are prepared for the incoming weather event in order to accommodate the community and have emergency plans in place should they be required," the City said in a release Thursday afternoon.

The City is also encouraging residents to stay safe by avoiding unnecessary travel and allowing better access to the roadways for emergency services. The City also recommends having 72 hours worth of emergency supplies.

Finally, the City is reminding residents to make sure their sump pumps are working and that their eavestroughs are cleared and facing away from their houses, in an effort to reduce the chance of flooding.
