Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement today as winds are expected to blow hard and possibly cause damage
Their release says that strong wind gusts of 80 km/h are likely to be present today.
That's caused by strong northwesterly winds that will develop in the wake of a low-pressure system moving through southern Manitoba this morning.
Gusts to 80 km/h or more will be possible for southeastern Saskatchewan and southwestern Manitoba beginning later this morning, expanding into the Red River Valley this afternoon.
Wind warnings may be needed for portions of the statement area should forecast winds intensify further.
High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break and may result in power outages.
Drivers should be aware of changing road conditions due to high winds.
The winds will rapidly diminish this evening as the low departs into Ontario.
