An arrest during a traffic stop by the Estevan Police Service led to charges for a 21-year-old man last week. On Thursday, February 20, the EPS pulled over and arrested two men following an investigation by their Drug and Intelligence Unit. One 34-year-old was released without charges, but the other will be facing a court date on Thursday, February 27.

Chase Jordan Velestuk has been charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, trafficking cocaine, two counts of possession of a weapon for a purpose dangerous to the public, and two further counts of breach of firearms prohibition. He is presumed innocent.

The firearm charges stemmed from a follow-up investigation after the traffic stop on Feb 20. The EPS executed a search warrant not long after placing Velestuk under arrest. They found what they describe as "a quantity of Canadian currency and two firearms."

Police would release the unnamed 34-year-old without charge, as well as a 20-year-old woman who was arrested over the course of the investigation. Velestuk was held in police custody until February 24.

Police say this arrest was part of a larger investigation into people they believe to be trafficking cocaine and other drugs in Estevan.
