A large number of waste went into Estevan's landfill site in 2006. A great majority of the waste product could be eliminated through recycling.

Estevan offers a variety of recycling options to residents. Last year, in 2006, our landfill site contained 12,420 metric tons of garbage, much of which is able to be recycled.

Sarcan provides bottle, paper, used paint and used electronic recycling while Regens Disposal and Harris Oilfield provide used oil recycling.

As Les Naka, public works service manager for Estevan explains, through the use of recycling, landfill site's garbage intake can be substantially reduced.

In 2006, there was roughly ten metric tons of white metal which includes fridges, washers and dryers.
