A fundraiser put on by Estevan Minor Football over the weekend is one of many that's looking to help ease some of the costs when it comes to a fall season of football.

The football club showed off Waterboy and had around 100 attendees.

The fundraiser was for the U18 Girl's Viragoes team and the U14 Oilers co-ed team, both of whom also helped out volunteering for the event.

The President of Estevan Minor Football Kevin Mortenson says the event had kids from both teams coming out to help raise money.

"The fundraiser was to help offset the costs of buses for their away games. they both have games in Moose Jaw, Regina, possibly Swift Current, For sure Yorkton, Moosomin, and Melville," said Mortenson, "The Estevan Minor Football Board thought that it would be a good thing for the kids to get out there and help raise some funds for something like this because it can get expensive."

"The last time we ran buses it cost us, I think it was over 12 thousand dollars, for two teams. to recover some of that money we thought let's get the kids out there to help us with a fundraiser."

While the movie night did happen on the weekend, the date had to change due to some adverse weather.

"Originally it was supposed to be Friday night, it was The Waterboy with Adam Sandler. we postponed it a night to Saturday and crossed our fingers for better weather," said Mortenson, "It did rain after everything got hauled over there Saturday afternoon and it went ahead. The grass stayed relatively dry, and it went off. We started at about 8:30, we had a little bit of technical difficulty with the sound but we paused the movie quickly, and up we went. We just had to move a couple of wires and away it went."

After the fundraiser, Mortenson says the organization came away with around $1200.

Estevan Minor Football has more fundraisers planned, and Mortenson says they're hoping to do some more movie nights.
