The Estevan Oilers U14 football team is kicking off their next season with a recruitment drive and summer training sessions. Head Coach Christian Pfeifer, in his first year at the helm, is spearheading the effort to give youth a chance to learn about the sport.

Pfeifer, who has been involved in coaching for over a decade, took over from long-time head coach Paul Duncan. "Coaching is something that I've been passionate about since I was young," said Pfeifer during an interview on the SUN 102 morning show. "I played football when I was younger and then as I grew out of playing, I got involved in coaching."

The team has organized a series of summer camp workouts to introduce potential players to the sport. These sessions, held every Thursday starting June 27 and running throughout July, are free and open to all. "We're not doing any contact or using any equipment," Pfeifer explained. "These are a perfect opportunity if you're kind of on the fence about playing football or you're not 100% sure about the sport. Come out and try it."

Football is a sport that welcomes everyone, Pfeifer noted. "No matter what your build, no matter what your background is, no matter what your skill level is, you always have a position on the football field. You always have a spot on the team from us."

Registration for the season is open until July 31. The Oilers' season consists of six games plus playoffs, with practices held three nights a week. In addition to players, the team is also looking for coaches. Estevan Minor Football is looking for officials as well.
