The Estevan Elite U11 softball team are the 2022 Highway 39 Softball League Champs, following their play over the weekend.
Their first match saw them go head to head against the second-place team and they beat them 8-2.

They finished third in the season overall and ended up facing off against the 1st place Weyburn Rebels in the finals.

That game was quite the battle - it was a full seven-inning marathon game that lasted three and a half hours.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Elite managed to hold the Rebels to one run in a close match that ended in 17-16.

Assistant Coach Dustin Hockey says that the team did well to get to the top.

"They're ecstatic, I don't know who's happier, the girls or us coaches that were really excited for them. It was so nice to see them all come together this weekend, they played strong defensively and put runs up on the board when they needed to. Just a good team effort by everybody."

Estevan was well represented in the league, as only 6 teams out of the 7 qualified for the playoff weekend and all 3 Estevan teams made it to the playoff weekend.

Hockey says the whole experience was well worth all of the effort put in.

"I was excited to be a part of that just to see the excitement from all those girls, they all worked hard. We all put in 110% effort on Saturday, and to see them put in that effort and put in the work that they needed to do to win it and execute on that, I think seeing them be rewarded for it was a humbling experience."

Hockey also thanked all of the volunteers who helped to run games throughout the season.
