Estevan, here's your chance to help people in need.

The Murray GM Fill the Truck Food Drive, in support of the Estevan Salvation Army, will take place at the Southern Plains Co-op on Thursday March 23. DiscoverEstevan will be broadcasting at the store from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. All donations will be loaded into a truck that is being provided by Murray GM.

"We have a number of our staff who are going to pop over and hang out with you guys for the day," said Ronza Reynard, the Community Ministries Director for the Estevan Salvation Army. "We look forward to just being out in the community and support you guys supporting us."

Reynard said a number of items are needed at the food bank right now, including:

  • Canned soup
  • Canned meats
  • Canned fruit
  • Rice
  • Beans
  • Coffee/tea

You can also bring hygiene products or money to donate, or you can purchase any items from the Co-op. All of these items will then be added to the truck.

"Any time someone wants to make a monetary donation, it helps us. Sometimes we have to go out and purchase the food ourselves. And we can appreciate that sometimes people are busy, and if dropping off money works for them, it works for us," Reynard said. 

Reynard said she continues to see an increase in the food bank, and an increase in new people accessing the food bank.

"It's great that we're there to help them and it's great that the word is getting out that we are available to the community and newcomers who are coming to our city, people who are just starting out on their own. And sometimes just people who are in situations and they need a little extra help in a certain month," she said.
