The Estevan Humane Society hosted its seventh annual Whiskers and Wine Gala on Saturday.

Tayja Lakusta, the president of the Estevan Humane Society board of directors, said the event has been growing in popularity each year.

“It was amazing. It was packed, people had a good time from what I’ve been told so far, and the food was amazing.”

Another highlight was the music performance put on by Weyburn's Brayden King.

“Brayden King and his band were superb. They got the crowd dancing and kept everybody’s attention the entire time.”

The money raised during this event goes toward the operating costs of the Humane Society.

“It’s kind of just an all-encompassing, the more money we raise, either we can help more animals, put money away to get some renovations worked on and looked at.”

Lakusta said that they are coming to the point where they need to look at building needs and further improve where they are sitting.

The final calculations have not been completed, but Lakusta said she was confident that they reached the same amount as last year if not more.

She said the event would not have been possible without the help of their loyal volunteers.

“They show up for us, they help us in more aspects than just volunteering at the shelter."

Lakusta also said that board members' creativity and willingness to help is also invaluable.

“They’re willing to put the hours in to make these events go off without a hitch.”

The community support for the Whiskers and Wine Gala was also a highlight for Lakusta.

“It’s amazing to see that the community gets behind us and we can’t wait to see what the next year brings us.”

The board is already planning a Ladies' Night fundraiser that will be taking place in May.

“That’s our newest fundraiser, that we’re going to try to slowly grow to Whiskers and Wine level.”
