Environment Canada continues to have special air quality statements in effect for much of western Canada, including southeastern Saskatchewan.

The latest statement for Estevan, Weyburn, Radville, and Milestone was updated at 4:09 Thursday morning. It says conditions for the southwestern portions of the province should gradually improve Thursday afternoon and evening.

But central areas directly downwind of the fires can expect the smoke to linger until Friday.

Wind on Thursday in Estevan is expected to come from the north around 20 kph throughout the day.

Here's the Thursday map of wildfires in the province, from the Saskatchewan government:

"Extreme PM 2.5 concentrations and associated AQHI values of 10+ or very high risk are occurring," said the Thursday-morning statement. "A band of thick smoke continues to linger over portions of southern and central Saskatchewan."
