With fall just around the corner, hunters are getting ready to head out into the wilderness to find some game.

Part of that preparation is knowing just what they are and aren't allowed to do according to the province.

As well, the province tends to give an overview ahead of the hunting seasons on what hunters might expect to find.

Travis Williams, Wildlife Allocation Specialist with the Ministry of Environment, says the season will look pretty similar to the past few years.

"One of the key messages is we have lots of opportunities this year, a lot of the hunting seasons will look very similar to last year's. But as you may know, season dates vary depending on wildlife management zone and game species, so we encourage people to review the season information and the hunters and trappers guide for all the details on any season you're specifically interested in."

"The winter conditions in some parts of the province this past year were harder than others for wildlife, but in general, the species are doing OK and hunting opportunities reflect that."

While no major changes have been made ahead of fall, Williams still recommends everyone check out the guide to make sure they're up to date.

"Nothing too different, we are offering expanded wolf hunting opportunities in the province for both residents and guided hunters this year and the details on that are also included in the guide this year for those that are interested."

"We strongly recommend people review the hunters and trappers guide because folks shouldn't just assume that nothing's changed from previous years. It's important that hunters know all the rules and regulations when it comes to hunting in Saskatchewan, and the guide is an excellent resource that provides important information regarding the regulations, season dates, license information, and things like that."

The 2023-24 season guide is available now both in paper copy and online at saskatchewan.ca/hunting.
