Alcohol related fatalities and serious injuries in Saskatchewan are down, according to a recent survey by the Traffic Injury Research Foundation.

However, nationally speaking, the poll indicated that the percentage of Canadians who drove over the legal limited climbed to 8.2 percent, up from 5.6 percent in 2004.

Inspector Don Ross, Officer in Charge of "F" Division Traffic Services explains that this information should be shocking and unacceptable to the average law abiding Canadian.

So far in 2007, 2658 people have been charged with impaired driving with an average of thirty per week.

Over eighty percent of Canadians supported the use of mandatory ignition interlocks and immediate vehicle impoundment for impaired drivers throughout Canada.
