The Saskatchewan government announced that its vaccination rate hit the 80-per-cent mark for the eligible population on Monday.

The province also reported 100 new cases of COVID-19. That's the lowest total since August 16, when 87 new cases were reported.

The seven-day average for daily new cases fell by four to 149.

The number of new tests was also the lowest since August 16. There were 1,297 tests reported on Monday. August 16 had 1,205.

Saskatchewan Health Minister Paul Merriman said upping the ante by requiring proof of vaccination or a negative test on October 1 has been effective.

“Saskatchewan’s proof of vaccination policy has increased our COVID-19 vaccination rates the last few weeks, and I appreciate every person who made the choice to protect themselves and their loved ones against serious COVID-19 illness, particularly those under twelve who are unable to be vaccinated at this time,” Merriman said.  “COVID-19 vaccines have proven to be safe, effective, and the best tool available to us to drive transmission rates down in the province.”

There were nine new cases reported across the South East Zone. One of those came in Sub Zone 4, which includes Estevan. The South East is at 157 active cases (a decrease of 20 from Sunday). Sub Zone 4 is at 52.

There was one new death from COVID-19 and there were 237 recoveries. Hospitalizations remained at 191 in the province.
