This week has been declared National Massage Therapy Awareness Week and the Canadian Cancer Society has teamed up with the Massage Therapist Association of Saskatchewan to promote massage for individuals living with Cancer.

Laurie Green, executive director of MTAS explains that massage therapy for cancer patients can help restore regular sleep patterns, manage pain, regain mobility after treatments and has been shown to help with nausea.

However, Green stresses that it is important to consult with an oncologist before receiving massage therapy as there are some types of cancer where it is not recommended.

Massage therapy is also beneficial for athletes and many other individuals who spend days working behind a computer.

Massage Therapy Awareness week ends October 27th.
