In the final home game before the Christmas break, the Estevan Bruins fell 3-2 to the Melfort Mustangs in a shootout Friday night at Affinity Place.

Estevan took a 2-1 lead early in the third period when Kade Runke scored off a turnover, but Melfort got the equalizer from Riley Ashe midway through the third before ultimately winning in the shootout.

Melfort’s Hayden Tuba and Estevan’s Alex Blanchard also scored in the game.

It’s the first extra time loss for the Bruins this season, who fall to 18-14-0-1. Melfort improves to 14-8-5-1.

The Bruins will play three more games away from home before breaking for the holidays.
