The National Farmers Union is concerned with the Federal Government's changes to the Canadian Grain Commission.

National Vice President Terry Boehm says the changes include a drastic cut in funding by as much as 70%, and a removal of the commission's mandate to look out for the interests of grain producers.

Boehm notes that the commission has been fundamental in making Canadian grain competitive.

According to Boehm, the changes will have a devastating effect on producers, as the abuses on weight and grading the grain companies inflicted before the commission was formed creep back into the system.
