Carla Beck is the new leader of the Saskatchewan NDP.

In a leadership vote that was held Sunday afternoon at the Delta Hotel in Regina, the MLA for Regina Lakeview received 68 percent of the vote. She beat Saskatoon’s Kaitlyn Harvey in the race.

Beck and Harvey were the only two candidates in the running for the leadership. The race became necessary after Ryan Meili announced in February he would be stepping down as the Leader of the Official Opposition and from the Legislature itself shortly afterwards.

Beck is the first woman to be elected the leader of the Saskatchewan NDP.
