As students head back to school the RCMP is warning about over-sharing through social media, with the return to school often captured by video or photos the RCMP are reminding parents and guardians about the dangers of sharing these milestones throughout social media.

“While social media is a great place to share updates with friends and family about your littles, it’s best to err on the side of caution when it comes to sharing private information," the RCMP said in a written statement.

The RCMP demonstrated the dos and don’ts when it comes to sharing across social media with the main focus being on not sharing so many specific details.

"[This can] include a child's name, their age, what grade they are in, who their teacher is, and where they go to school – all information that predators or scammers would love to know.”

It was also stressed that no matter your privacy or security settings, it is always best to keep a child's personal information out of their back-to-school photos.
