The RCMP gave out some of the figures so far this year in terms of break and enters and thefts around the rural areas of the southeast.

Those figures are roken down between the Carnduff, Estevan, and Carlyle detachments, which cover seperate areas.

Those statistics include the period for 2018-2022. 2023 has also been included up to the end of August, which are the latest validated statistics they had available.

For the sake of comparison, they included the same time period (January-August) for 2022.

The break and enter statistics include reports of break and enters to residences, businesses and other properties.

The theft statistics include thefts under and over $5,000, as well as vehicle thefts.

Break and Enter Statistics

The RCMP stated that as reporting procedures, changes in ongoing investigations, and other factors, these numbers may change in previous or future reports.

Saskatchewan RCMP reminds residents to take precautions to deter break and enter and thefts:

- Lock all windows and doors of residences, businesses and outbuildings when not in use.

- Consider installing an alarm system and/or video surveillance and/or motion sensor lights and ensure they are always functional.

- Always lock vehicles and equipment, refraining from leaving valuables, tools or keys in them, and park them in a garage or well-lit areas while not in use.

- Report crimes, even if they are small, to police as soon as possible. When all crimes are reported to the police, officers get a clearer picture of the types and numbers of crimes occurring in their area. This information helps them launch future police projects, initiatives and education campaigns.

A reminder that some complaints such as damage/mischief to property under $5,000, theft of bicycle under $5,000, theft under $5,000, theft from vehicle under $5,000, lost or found property and damage/mischief to vehicle under $5000 can be reported online to the RCMP here: report.rcmp.ca.
