Staff and fans at the Estevan Motor Speedway enjoyed great weather on opening weekend with races on both Friday and Saturday night.

Speedway president Brad Pierson said a number of drivers had success to kick off the season.

"What we were most happy about I think is over two nights and 10 feature races, we had nine different winners," Pierson said. "That just shows the competition level we have out at the speedway, so that was very good."

Pierson said the last two years have been very challenging for the speedway given the COVID-19 pandemic.

"For the last two years it has just been such a fight and so limited for fans, and of course that hurt our revenue," Pierson said. "And hey we came through it with flying colours and we feel good that we were able to do that, but you know we're just not having to worry about this or that. And we're just really excited to be able to get our grand stands open for everyone for an entire season."

Pierson added the attendance was lower than they had hoped for but is optimistic it will improve as the season goes along.

"As the year goes on I think we always build attendance, and that's nice. And we won't have to worry about any restrictions with it."
