The Saskatchewan Roughriders couldn’t find a way to get past the defence of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers Sunday afternoon, held to just 258 yards total offence, as the Blue Bombers won the 56th annual Labour Day Classic 26-8. The loss is the first of the season for the Riders, who are now 3-1 on the year.

Riders quarterback Cody Fajardo was limited to just 211 passing yards and finished the day going 23-for-39 and three interceptions. On the ground, Fajardo picked up another 21 yards on five carries. Running back William Powell would collect 44 yards on the ground on eight carries.

On the other side of the ball, the usually swarming Riders defence was only able to get to Winnipeg pivot Zach Collaros once as he threw for 245 yards in the game. He had one touchdown pass and also threw an interception. The running game for the Bombers was strong, with Andrew Harris rushing for 95 hards on 18 carries, with Collaros adding another 31 yards himself.

The two teams will now get set for the rematch in the Banjo Bowl, set to be played in Winnipeg this coming Sunday.
