The recruitment drive has begun for the Saskatchewan Distance Learning Corporation (Sask DLC), the new provincial online school. Sask DLC is looking to hire up to 90 teachers for ten campuses in communities across the province.

Sask DLC will be the main hub for online learning in Saskatchewan, offering courses for students in kindergarten to grade twelve, as well as adults looking to graduate or upgrade their education.

There will be 150 educators employed by Sask DLC, with approximately 60 teachers being transferred from the Sun West School Division.

Student registration for the 2023/2024 school year is expected to open in April of this year.

Darren Gasper, newly appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Sask DLC, said the Estevan campus will serve the schools located within the South East Cornerstone Public School Division currently, as well as schools located within the Prairie Valley School Division.

There will be staffing opportunities at the main office in Kenaston, as well as in Estevan, La Ronge, Moose Jaw, Neilburg, Neilburg, Nipawin, Prince Albert, Saskatoon, Swift Current, and Yorkton.

Gasper explained that, "In the initial round of hiring, we are looking to hire the school administration, or principal, at the regional campus, as well as the online teachers that will be located at that local campus."

The biggest advantage of the Sask DLC is the breadth of programming that will now be available to students all across Saskatchewan, Gasper said. "There's a huge list of high school electives, for example, for students no matter where they go to school in Saskatchewan; they'll be able to access that list of opportunities."

Gasper added that there will be a variety of teaching approaches available, including synchronous, live broadcasts where the teacher instructs live to students at a scheduled time. As well as asynchronous courses that are recorded, so students can work on those whenever they have time, and students have access to those courses 24 hours a day.

"We have a website out, www.saskdlc.ca, and folks will be able to see the "careers" link right at the top of the page. It will take them to our careers page, where they're invited to complete an online application right from that website."
