The Southeast A's are league champions.

The U15 AAA baseball team beat the White Butte Broncos 7-4 in the championship game on Sunday to claim the league title.

It was a come from behind win, as the A's fell behind 3-0 in the first inning but rallied with five runs in the fifth inning.

"They worked hard all year," said head coach Blair Beck. "We didn't know if we were going to get a chance to finish it in this manner, that we'd even get a chance to play a league final. They were all pretty excited."

Beck said that the team finished the season 25-9 overall. He praised the committment of the players through out the whole season.

"We had guys from all over the place," he said. "Most guys were driving 45 minutes, an hour, to our practices and they came twice a week for two, three hour practices, and at the games all the time. It's a lot of work to commit to playing ball at that level, and these guys did an excellent job."

The A's had strong pitching that carried them in the championship game. Estevan's Nathan Yunick picked up the win despite the rocky first inning, his ninth or tenth win of the season, Beck said. And Kade Phillips was excellent in relief.

"He struck out eights guys in a row to end the game, so that made it pretty easy on the coaches' nerves anyways," Beck said. "It took a lot of stress out of the last little bit that's for sure."
