Spring is underway in the southeast, though the usual melting of snow and warmer temperatures may have to wait for a while.

Environment Canada predicted that this spring would be below average in terms of temperature, which has been true so far.

Meteorologist Terri Lang says the current conditions reflect that prediction.

"It's not setting records, but certainly getting down there and well below average for this time of year. The average high for this time of year is plus six, and the average overnight low is minus six. We know that with the range of temperatures, we can get that can be anywhere from the low 20s at this time of year, with temperatures closer to minus 30. We have a big range, but certainly continuing below average for the foreseeable future."

While the weekend seems to be bringing some warmer temperatures, Lang explains that's likely to be a mirage produced by their system.

"The models have a tendency to do that, to try and get it towards average. The weather patterns are continuing on the cold side, so it may be we're able to squeak above freezing, but we'll see once that day gets closer."

Also on that weekend is a storm system coming through, which so far doesn't look intense.

"The models are trying to indicate a weather system moving through southern Saskatchewan Sunday, into Monday, so we may see a little bit of snow with that but we're not seeing anything solid, that's saying it's going to track that way."
