St. Joseph's hospital operates with funding from many levels, one of which is the donations from citizens, with a new one just being announced.

An anonymous donor has given $100,000 to the hospital, following their own stay there.

That's headed to the Endoscopy department, which focuses on procedures that look inside a person's body.

Lori Gervais, the executive director of the St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation, says that the donation was due to one doctor's work to help out the donor.

"It was a massive donation, the $100,000 donation was a direct result from the care the donor family had received from Dr. Sheikh, and the staff here at St. Joseph's. They were very thankful to him and wanted to show their gratitude by donating to the endoscopy department, which is specifically Dr. Sheikh's department."

The money will be going towards the many uses it'll be needed for in the endoscopy department.

"There's all kinds of uses," said Gervais, "The endoscopy department is something that needs to be upgraded and updated constantly. There is software that's involved, there is equipment that is involved, even the sterilization of the equipment, there are always ongoing costs with that."

Gervais says that all the support they receive, from donations and fundraisers, is appreciated by the staff.

"It's unbelievable. It's always overwhelming to see the support that the community provides, whether it's in our specific fundraising or donations that come in like this anonymously or non-anomalously. To show the support and care the people have received is amazing."
