Negotiations are set to resume between the Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation and the Government-Trustee Bargaining Committee. The invitation to resume the negotiations came from the GTBC late Wednesday after they are said to have received a new mandate from the provincial government. The meeting is scheduled for Monday in Saskatoon.

“We welcome the opportunity to return to the bargaining table to discuss teachers’ proposals and the important issues facing education in Saskatchewan,” said STF President Samantha Becotte in a release issued late Wednesday afternoon. “We are hopeful that the GTBC’s new mandate will allow for productive negotiations that will address the needs of students and teachers.”

With the resumption of the negotiations, the STF announced they were suspending all job action during the negotiations. The scheduled provincewide withdrawal of lunch supervision that was planned for Thursday has been cancelled, and teachers who normally provided the supervision over the lunch period will be providing the service as usual.

The STF initiated job action in January, including two on-day general strikes by their membership. Rotating strikes began last week, with two regions affected before the announcement of the resumption of the negotiations.
