You know you live a boring life when you get SUPER excited
about award shows...especially the NHL Award Show
which was held last night in Las Vegas.
In what was one of the most – perhaps the most – entertaining
NHL Awards Show yet (how great was that Ryan Getzlaf-Bobby Ryan skit?)
There were few surprises, but more than a few new faces
Here are the nights winner's
Hart Memorial Trophy (Most valuable player to his team):
Winner: Henrik Sedin
Winner's Bio: Sedin led the league in points last season with 112,
scoring 29 goals and registering 83 assists for the Canucks.
James Norris Trophy (Outstanding all-around defenseman):
Winner: Duncan Keith
Winner's Bio: The Winnipeg native had 14 goals and 55 assists
in 82 games with the Stanley Cup-winning Blackhawks last season.
NHL Leadership Award:
Winner: Sidney Crosby
Winner's Bio: The Penguin had 51 goals and 58 assists for 109 points
last regular season, which was best in the NHL for scoring and second for points.
Lady Byng Trophy (Sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct):
Winner: Martin St. Louis
Winner's Bio: St. Louis had 94 points in 2009-10 while taking only six penalties
the highest points-to-penalty ratio in the NHL. The 35-year-old had
29 goals and 65 assists with the Lightning last season
King Clancy Trophy (Leadership qualities on and off the ice):
Winner and Only Nominee: Shane Doan, Phoenix Coyotes
Winner's Bio: The
33-year-old had 18 goals and 37 assists in 82 games
with the Coyotes
last season. He has played over 1000
games with the Coyotes/Winnipeg Jets franchise.
Bill Masterton Trophy (Perseverance, sportsmanship & dedication to hockey):
Winner: Jose Theodore
Winner's Bio: Théodore, a Quebec native, is the founder of "Saves for Kids", a charity
that benefits the NICU at the Children's National Medical Center in
Washington, D.C., where he plays with the Capitals.
Vezina Trophy (Outstanding goaltender):
Winner: Ryan Miller
Winner's Bio: The Michigan native went 41-18-8 with a .929 save percentage
and a 2.22 GAA for the Sabres last season. The 29-year-old was drafted 138th
overall by Buffalo in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.
Jack Adams Award (Outstanding coach):
Winner: Dave Tippett
Winner's Bio: The 48-year-old from Moosomin, Saskatchewan, has coached the Coyotes and the Dallas Stars.
Ted Lindsay Award (Most outstanding player selected by the NHLPA):
Winner: Alex Ovechkin
Winner's Bio: The Washington Capitals star finished third in scoring with 109 points.
Frank J. Selke Trophy (Forward who excels in
defensive play):
Winner: Pavel Datsyuk
Winner's Bio: Has won the Lady Byng Trophy 4 consecutive seasons (2006-09) becoming
just the 2nd player in NHL history to do so, three consecutive Selke Trophies and two Stanley Cups
. Had 27 goals, 43 assists this season.
Calder Trophy ( Rookie of the Year)
Winner: Tyler Myers
Winner's Bio: The 20-year-old native of Houston, Texas had 11 goals and 37 assist
in 82 games with the Sabres last season. The 6'8, 222-pound blueliner was drafted
12th overall by the Sabres in the first round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
