After a few days of unseasonably warm temperatures, the southeast is now being plunged into a bit of a cool shock today.

Temperatures will be near freezing, diving beneath the previous double digits many enjoyed.

That'll be the start of the colder season, as the system bringing in that stretch of cold will also bring snow to some.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Danielle Desjardins explains what areas will see the snow hit.

"We do have a low-pressure system tracking through the prairies, bringing snow just north the southeast region, kind of across Kindersley through Saskatoon and into Northern Manitoba, and in behind this low-pressure system, we're seeing a cold front that's going to be moving through the southeast. So we're going to see quite a drop from what we've seen earlier this week."

While it'll be much colder today, some seasonable weather is on the way to finish off the week.

"Behind this cold front, for the remainder of the week, we're going to see temperatures rebounding into the single digits," said Desjardins, "So not quite as warm as we've seen but actually quite a bit more seasonable. Just as a reference point, normal daytime highs for this time of year is five degrees, and the overnight low is minus seven degrees."

Snow and colder weather will eventually be seen in the southeast, as the current forecast has both heading our way at the start of next week.

Desjardins says that between that and the cold front already here, it's likely that this week will be the last time we see double-digit positives in 2022.
