The RCMP media relations has provided an update on the three-vehicle collision near Balgonie on Tuesday morning. The RCMP said in a release that the investigation determined a car and a van collided in the eastbound lanes.

The driver of the car, an 18-year-old male from White City, and the passenger of the car, a 64-year-old female from Nanaimo, BC, were pronounced deceased at the scene by EMS. Their families have been notified. The adult male driver of the van was taken to hospital with serious injuries. The RCMP does not have an update on his condition.

Highway #1 was closed during the initial investigation but has since re-opened. White Butte RCMP continues to investigate with the assistance of a Saskatchewan RCMP collision reconstructionist.

White Butte RCMP is currently on scene of a serious collision involving three vehicles on Highway 1, approximately 3 kilometres east of Balgonie.

According to the Highway Hotline, motorists can expect delays of up to an hour. 

RCMP is diverting traffic to alternate routes back onto Highway 1 eastbound.

STAR-9 (Regina) has been dispatched for a scene call emergency in the Balgonie, SK area.
