The U-11 Estevan Gold Bruins had a successful weekend in their home tournament at Affinity Place and the Power Dodge Ice Centre.

The Gold Bruins won their first three games before losing to a tough Moose Jaw team in the finals 6-2.

"The Moose Jaw team was very very good," said head coach Brant Kersey. "We skated with them for the majority of the game, it was a really strong, back and forth hockey game. The kids played very well. We ran into a very hot goaltender."

Despite falling short in the finals, Kersey was pleased with how his team performed overall.

"They played really really well together, they moved the puck, they scored some fantastic goals. The team really really came together quite well," he said.

He added that despite some lopsided final scores, the tournament was very competitive.

"The scores are not indicative of what the games were," Kersey said. "They were very close games and very competitive games. And our guys just were able to capitalize on opportunities that the other team wasn't. And our goaltending was fantastic through out the tournament as well."

The U-11 Gold Bruins team is made up of house league players who compete together for tournaments and exhibition games through out the season.

The team's next tournament is scheduled for February in Kindersley.
