Plans are in the works for some added upgrades to Churchill Park in Estevan, which includes a new shower building, the city said earlier this week.

"Around $350,000 towards the upgrades of the play structure as well as a new building," said the city's Leisure Services Manager Rod March. "The new building is required through the health authority for showers and washroom facilities for the new pool. That'll be done this year before the pool opens."

March said city council is keeping a close eye on parks all across the city.

"What we're trying to do is move from park to park as council approves it through their priorities and start upgrading," March said. "We have to certify these play structures every year. And Churchill was in the poorest condition, so it was the first slated for replacement. So this kind of puts a cap on the Churchill area, having a new building and then a new play structure to match it."

Some construction work was done on the pool itself last summer after the city received a grant from the government.

"So far, we've had really positive feedback," March said.
